Frequently asked questions
What you should know before trusting the number.
What is the Sossego Index?+
A score from 0 to 100 that estimates the ambient noise at a point on the map. 100 is the quietest and 0 the loudest. We call 85 to 100 Very calm, 70 to 84 Calm, 50 to 69 Active, 30 to 49 Busy and below 30 Loud.
Where does the data come from?+
From OpenStreetMap, the open collaborative map. We use roads, railways, airports and runways, industrial zones, stadiums, bars and nightclubs. We do not use microphone measurements.
Is it a real measurement?+
No. It is an estimate produced by a simplified acoustic model. It is useful to compare places and get a quick feel, but it does not replace a professional sound level measurement.
I live in an apartment. Do the floor and the facing change the result?+
Yes. In the panel, choose Apartment, enter the floor and the direction your windows face. High floors sit farther from the street in front but hear distant avenues and highways better. Windows facing away from the road are shielded by the building itself, usually 10 dB or more below the front facade. The shared link keeps this setting.
Why does the result look wrong for a place I know?+
Three common reasons: OpenStreetMap data may be incomplete in the area, we do not have real traffic counts per road, and the model does not yet account for buildings and terrain that block sound. Soon you will be able to suggest corrections directly on the map.
Does it work for all of Brazil?+
Yes, any Brazilian address can be looked up. All 27 state capitals have their data loaded locally and answer in under a second; elsewhere the lookup uses public OpenStreetMap servers and can take up to a minute. Quality depends on OpenStreetMap coverage, which is best in state capitals and large cities.
Can I search by CEP?+
Yes. Type the CEP with or without the dash and we locate the street automatically.
Is there an API or commercial use?+
Not yet, but it is on the roadmap. If you work in real estate, urban planning or research and want access to the data, get in touch.
